The Hop & Beer Temple

The building of the Hop & Beer Temple is a former warehouse, with a drying kiln for hops, which belonged to the Christl brothers. It served its purpose for more than 100 years, since 1890. Today, you can take a guided tour through a labyrinth, where you will wander among the hop bales. Do you dare to enter it? Your goal is to find the hidden treasure at it's centre! But on the way, you will face a small test of courage in the sulphur chamber.

The tour continues to the heraldic hall of coats of arms of the Žatec hop-growing region - the homolupules region, which is presented by approximately 300 municipalities. The coats of arms of individual municipalities and the entire exhibition refer to our region's rich history and traditions, which have been associated with hop growing for millennia.

The Hop Lighthouse is the dominant feature of the whole area of technical l monuments related to hop growing. The perimeter staircase leads up to the tower's crown, from where you can enjoy unique views of Žatec and its surroundings. In the central part of the tower, there is a lift with a 3D projection show. Thanks to this technology, you can watch a unique animation, experience flying over Žatec or travelling through space.

The Hop Astronomical Clock is truely unique in the world . The portal of the clock represents an allegory of life, typical for the Žatec hop-growing region. The clock face is framed by the twelve months with the signs of the zodiac and a depiction of the hop-growing year. Every hour, the original mechanism of the clock sets in motion an unusual spectacle underlined by the chiming of the clock.

Cyclists are welcome! Now you can also charge your electric bikes at the information centre of the Hop & Beer Temple. To use this charging station, you need a charging cable, which can be rented directly from the information centre. Universal, Bosch and Shimano cables are available.
